On October 17th, the Sophomores had an assembly to welcome the K.I.N.G. Movement. They inspired the 10th graders for their year-long social action project – a collaboration between their Global Literature and Algebra II classes.
They went through the steps of taking social action. These steps included noticing a problem and investigating. The speakers talked about how if there is a problem, there is a solution, and not everyone notices the same problem. The presentation included interactive polls that the Sophomores thoroughly enjoyed!
Each month, a male and female student athlete will win Student Athlete of the Month. They are recognized for their hard work and leadership on and off the field. Congratulations to all of these incredible student athletes. These student athletes set a great example of leadership on and off of the field.

Help Ms. Ross give her students a modern day American Dream story, reminiscent of Gatsby but one that captures the complexities, highs and lows of the immigrant story today.
Our school is filled with inquisitive, hungry, and visionary minds; while different in personality, they share a common concern for the world around them, committed to reading and learning about how to make it better.
Ms. Ross’ book fund is until Jan 12, 2019
Hooray! This project is fully funded! Thank you!

BCCHS thanks Sarah Kauss, the founder of S’well, and Mark Chambers, the director of the Mayor’s Office of Sustainability, who are working to slow the stream of discarded plastic bottles that clog waterways, threatening marine life, and that pile up in landfills.
Ms. Kauss is donating 320,000 reusable, stainless-steel water bottles, one for every high-school student in every public or charter school in the city.

Welcome to a new school year!
Posted in General
September 4, 2018
Dear BCCHS Community,
We are excited to welcome back our BCCHS students, staff and families to the 2018-19 school year. This year, we will continue to come together to support our community, engage in rigorous learning, make learning relevant through real-world connections and support an inclusive, diverse environment through embracing our differences, learning from one another and celebrating each other as global citizens.
We have a few new initiatives this year that I wanted to take a moment to highlight. This year, we will deepen our work toward supporting all learners to meet rigorous college-ready standards by launching our FLEX program. In short, our Flex program is a class that meets three times a week during the school day. Each week, through advisory, students will be able to select where they want to go, to get extra support and enrichment. Students will learn more about this in advisory during the first two weeks of school, and we invite families to attend Curriculum Night, on September 26th, where we will review more about FLEX.
We are continuing to focus on community through our advisory program. This year, we will deepen our focus on social emotional learning with restorative circles, which will take place each Friday in advisory. We started this work last year, and are excited to build on this and deepen our focus.
While academics is key at BCCHS, we also value developing systems and structures to support an inclusive, diverse environment, which will help all of our students thrive. This year, we have developed new class configurations, where students are able to mix with other students in their grade throughout the day. Students will travel in 2-4 different groups, depending on their classes.
We are excited to welcome back our BCCHS community and welcome new members. Welcome, students and families who are new to BCCHS. For our incoming 9th graders, we are mindful that high school is a big transition. Therefore, we have developed a special program for 9th grade for Wednesday and Thursday this week. Students will spend time building community on Wednesday, and on Thursday, will learn about systems and structures expected of them at BCCHS. Students can bring their day 1 supplies on Friday, September 7th.
We welcome you all with enthusiasm! We value each other’s unique differences with empathy, and we believe each student at BCCHS is extraordinary. These are our values and we are excited to see you again and share them together.
As a reminder, all students should be at school on Wednesday, September 5th at 8:30 am. 9th graders will report to the cafeteria, 10-12 graders will go to their advisories (classrooms will be posted in the lobby). New 10-12 grade students should go to the gym for their class assignment.
Here’s to a great year,
Alicia Perez-Katz
