Parent Teacher Association (PTA)

Parent Teacher Association

Overview

Every parent or legal guardian of students currently enrolled in BCCHS are automatically a member of the PTA. Everyone is encouraged to participate in their child’s experience through PTA involvement. It’s a great way to feel connected to the wider school community.

The PTA has several important functions. One of the primary goals of the PTA is to raise money to supplement the Department of Education budget. This funding provides support for

  • Sports Teams
  • School Clubs
  • Expanded music and arts programs
  • Innovative and creative curricular programs
  • Programs including: Naviance (college planning), Newsela (news literacy), PupilPath (online grading)
  • Classroom supplies
  • Student recognition awards (Senior Awards, Athletics, National Honor Society)
  • Technology enhancements and facility maintainance
  • Professional development for our faculty and staff

The PTA relies on each and every family to give to the school in money and/or volunteer time. Fundraisers include our Direct Drive, Raffles, Bakes Sales, Apparel Sales, and our Spring Fling Auction.

Membership/Meetings
There are two types of PTA meetings—General Meetings and Executive Board Meetings. All parents or legal guardians of currently enrolled students are welcome to attend both meetings.

PTA General Meetings are held monthly (meeting dates), all PTA members are eligible to vote on motions brought to the floor at general meetings. For those not able to attend the general meetings, PTA meeting minutes are published and shared with the membership.

PTA Executive Board Meetings are also held monthly (meeting dates). However, only Executive Board officers are allowed to vote on issues at these meetings. The PTA Executive Board consists of parents who are elected by the PTA to represent their needs and interface more directly with the school administration.

PTA Budget and Financial Reports
Each year, the Executive Board reviews the PTA’s expenses of the previous school year, determines the anticipated expenses of the upcoming school year, and meets with the Principal to incorporate costs not allotted to the school by the Department of Education. Our monthly Financial Reports provide an overview of our fundraising and expenses.

Volunteer
The most important thing you can do is to be involved: Volunteer your time. Come to meetings. Give us your thoughts. Ask questions. Donate what you can. Everyone is busy, but please find a little time to help contribute to your child’s educational experience. There are many opportunities to volunteer throughout the year such as leading our annual Sport Award dinner, or baking goods for a bake sale. Have an idea for a fundraiser or other ways to make our school better? Let us know, we love to hear your ideas!
