School Closed Effective 3/18/20

Posted in General

Dear Baruchians,

It is with a heavy heart that we share that school is now closed, in order to secure our safety to combat COVID-19. The Mayor announced this evening that they are hoping schools will reopen on April 20th, after spring break. As we know more, we will share with you.
On Monday, school is closed to everyone. If you need to access school for a grab and go meal, you can come to school- meals will be available in the cafeteria for you to pick up and take home.
On Tuesday-Thursday, all staff will report to school to learn how to use the NYCDOE distance learning platform. We will also finalize our distance learning plan that we have already developed internally.
For all students who need to come to school to get things from your locker, you can do so on Tuesday. Depending on guidance, we may need to bring materials down to you, or you can come up and get them. We will ensure that you have all your supplies.
In the meantime, please check google classroom for assignments and school work. We will have a final plan in place by end of day Thursday. Teachers are already posting work online to keep you busy.
As we know more information, we will share this with you. During these unprecedented times, be safe, and stay close with your loved ones.  We hope to be together again soon.
In unity,
Alicia Perez-Katz
Principal

Coronavirus Update

Posted in General

We will be sending daily updates to our school community in regards to staying healthy in response to the novel coronavirus. Students are encouraged to stay home if they are not feeling well. We will work with students regarding missed work – the priority is not coming to school if you feel sick!
If you are traveling, please let the school know. If you travel to a high-risk country, students are expected to remain in self-quarantine for 14 days after travel (visit https://www1.nyc.gov/site/doh/health/health-topics/coronavirus.page for an updated list of countries.)
We are also guarding against any stigma or bias directed towards members of our community that stem from Coronavirus fears. This will be addressed regularly with our school community.
There are no plans to close schools or early childhood programs at this time. This is an extreme measure that can be disruptive to day-to-day life, and the decision to implement will only be taken at the direction of public health experts. As a reminder, it is critical that all New Yorkers continue to practice general viral infection prevention measures including:
• Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue or sleeve
• Wash your hands regularly
• Avoid touching your face
• Avoid close contact with people who are sick
• Get your flu shot – it’s never too late
• Stay home if you’re feeling sick. Call your doctor and let them know your symptoms and travel history.
Please read the Frequently Asked Questions sheet attached to this letter for more information, or visit nyc.gov/coronavirus at any time for important updates. The health and safety of our children continues to be our chief priority, and we will follow all guidance and take all appropriate measures accordingly.
