Symposium of Activists

Posted in General

Hi parents and guardians:
Ms. Cogan and Ms. Di Rico are very excited to host a first-ever conference of activists for 10th grade students. Each year, students do an extensive social action project to change the world in some specific, measurable, meaningful way. To that end, we have been inviting in activists, speakers, performers, etc. to inspire and equip the students in making real social change.
We define activist as anyone who is using their power in a purposeful way to exact positive change and/or reverse social injustice. We want to show students that so many of us, in our regular day jobs, or in addition to our regular day jobs, work to make the world a better place. This work might be direct volunteer service, fundraising, non-profit work, advocacy, research, education, policy analysis, or any other method of making change.
If you, in your work or your life in general, are an advocate of change, we would LOVE to have you in on Friday, 2/15 to participate in a Symposium of Activists, 1:15 – 2:50pm. During this time, each visiting activist will meet with small groups of students to discuss what issue they work to address and how they make change happen. You would not be speaking or presenting to a large audience; instead you would be chatting with small groups of kids for about 15 minutes at at time.
If you have questions, write to Ms. Di Rico and Ms. Cogan, and we are happy to fill you in more.
We hope to hear from many/all of you!
Happy holidays,

Message from the Principal

Posted in General

Dear families,
Beginning on Monday, December 17, your child’s grades will be up to date in PupilPath for the mid-term for marking period 2. Teachers wrote anecdotals that you should review in PupilPath for some students as well.
Advisors will be conferring with all students this week, reviewing their progress thus far and developing plans for the remainder of the term.
As a reminder, we are now a term model, which means that students will receive 1 credit per class on January 31, 2019, which will be a finalized grade on their transcript. Final semester 1 grades are an average of quarter 1 and quarter 2.
If you have questions, you can reach out to your child’s advisor (email them by last name.first name@bcchsnyc.net or call the school directly) and/or their counselor (Ms Smith – grades 9 & 11; Ms. Grebstein, grades 10 & 12.)
If you do not have access to your PupilPath account, please contact our Parent Coordinator, Janice Salmeri, who can help you access your account by emailing her at salmeri.janice@bcchsnyc.net, or calling her at 212-683-7440.
The last day of classes for this marking period is Friday, January 18. More information regarding Regents week schedules will be coming out in the beginning of January.
Sincerely,
Alicia Perez-Katz
Principal

BCCHS Holiday Canned Goods Food Drive

Posted in General

We are having a school-wide canned food drive. The non-perishable foods are going to the Ronald McDonald house charities.

This is a competition between advisories to see who can collect the most cans and create the best decorated box for the cans. The theme for the box competition this year is “holiday’s” which can be a traditional holiday like Thanksgiving, or a non-traditional holiday like National Taco Day. Each advisory will choose their decoration theme.

Beadows!

Posted in General

Baruchians came together at Beadows on Thursday October 25th to have a good time. Lilmejer and Kdollaz started out a rap battle with songs the audience enjoyed. Andre Spears and Lil Soy performed their original song Round One. The show ended with headliners Will Diaz and KIDTHEWAVE performing songs like Sandman and Without You. Kids from multiple grades seemed to have a good time as everyone came together creating a mosh pit.
